HISTORY OF THE SHEFFIELD AND WADDINGTON
TOWNSHIPS AND AREAS

Sheffield
Sheffield is a country town in the Selwyn District of the Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island, near the Waimakariri Gorge. Sheffield was once a railway junction; the first railway line reached the town in the late 1870s from a junction in Darfield with the Whitecliffs Branch.
Waddington
Waddington is a small country village located just 1km from Sheffield. The village was named after William Waddington, who originally bought the land in 1873. The district was part of the Homebush run previously owned by John Deans. Waddington originally boasted a shop, butcher, church and school among other small businesses.
